To further promote environmental protection technology exchanges and cooperation in the coal mining and coal chemical industries, and advance ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, the 2024 Coal Mining & Coal Chemical Environmental Protection Industry Conference and the 3rd (Ordos) Coal Mining and Coal Chemical Environmental Protection Technology and Equipment Exhibition Matching Conference was held at the Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center from August 1 to 4. The conference featured an academician forum and 16 thematic seminars, gathering over 200 academicians, industry experts, and senior technical professionals. Participants jointly explored and exchanged insights on China's coal industry green development, high-quality development of coal chemical industry, mine water and coal chemical wastewater treatment, bulk solid waste from coal mining and processing enterprises, as well as technical equipment advancements and environmental engineering operations for air pollutant emission control and comprehensive resource utilization.

Mr. Shi Weiping, Chief Engineer of High-Salinity Water Resource Utilization at BGT Group, was invited as an expert to attend this technical event. He delivered an insightful speech on the "Research Results of Mine Water Zero Discharge and Byproduct Sodium Carbonate Project" and conducted an in-depth analysis of the prospects of the high-salinity water resource utilization industry. In particular, he shared and explored cases, analyses, standards, and technologies related to the Compliance Treatment of Mine Water—First Domestic Case of Yielding High-quality Sodium Carbonate Byproduct at Shenhua Buretai.

Mr. Shi Weiping stated that the comprehensive inflow of mine water is characterized by high alkalinity, low hardness, and low sulfate. During the pretreatment process, it is necessary to remove or reduce pollutants such as fluoride, suspended solids, salt content, and chlorides, while retaining high alkalinity as much as possible and strictly controlling the amount of sulfate ions added during water purification. After pretreatment, concentration, evaporative crystallization, extraction separation of mine drainage, industrial sodium carbonate, industrial sodium chloride, sodium carbonate decahydrate, and other miscellaneous salt products are obtained. The effluent from reverse osmosis upgrading treatment, which meets the standards, is recycled and used for production, domestic miscellaneous use, irrigation, and greening.

The Shenhua Buretai Mine Water Compliance Treatment Project undertaken by BGT treats the mine water drainage from Buretai, Cun 1#, and Cun 2# coal mines. After the project is implemented, it operates in series with the original mine water Phase I pre-sedimentation and Phase II fluoride removal systems. Together, they reduce impurities such as suspended solids, turbidity, TDS, fluoride, and chloride in the water, removing or reducing excessive impurities in the mine water, and making it suitable for reuse in the mining area and for irrigation and greening. This project is the first domestic technological innovation project to separate sodium carbonate from high-alkalinity mine water wastewater, with the salt separation process being the first of its kind in China. The quality of the successfully separated sodium carbonate exceeds the Class II Grade A standard, with the project designated as a key project by Shenhua Shendong Company.

On August 4, the conference delegates visited and inspected BGT's Menkeqing Coal Mine Mine Water Zero-discharge Salt Separation Operation & Maintenance Project.
